Roadtrips with a baby can be a little daunting, stressful even. It's hard to keep your little one strapped in the car seat and happy without them leading you to the edge a little. But truth is, a car ride is often less stressful than getting on a plane as you can stop your vehicle to take mini breaks or to move around a restless baby. And if your baby throws a tantrum, you can focus on your baby solely and not worry about other passengers on board.
Whether you are hitting the road to visit the grandparents or heading to a vacation destination, do consider these useful mommy hacks to keep your little one happy and peaceful in the car!
1. Toys and books
Smaller board books or ones that are interactive like lift-the-flap or with musical elements are all excellent choices for the car. Keep a few of them in the car at all times so you can easily have access to them when needed. You can shop for baby toys & books here.
2. Car seat mirror
If your baby is rear-facing, install a car mirror in front of their car seat so you can peek and sneak in little smiles and giggles! Ensure that the car seat mirror is installed properly because anything that is not secure can become a cursor that may cause serious injury to your baby in case of an accident.
3. Snacks
Safe snacks are a must in the car for long trips. Things like puffs and rice cakes that are easily dissolved are good to have in the car. They do leave some crumbs but crumbs or crying child? Choose crumbs, anytime, every time.
4. Tune in to baby's favourite songs
Good music = happy kids! Even if that means you have to listen to Encanto or Frozen soundtracks over and over again. You may also put on any of your favourite songs and see if your kids enjoy them so you too can enjoy the car ride with your favourite songs on. A win-win situation, indeed.
5. Backseat partner
If you are travelling with another passenger, consider having them sit in the back to keep your little one accompanied so they can talk to, sing to, play with or safely feed a bottle to your baby. And if you're tired from driving, you can always switch roles with them!
