The maintenance of a baby stroller is often overlooked. Most if not all parents use the baby stroller every day as they take their baby with them to run errands. In order to keep using the stroller for years, regular maintenance is needed to extend the stroller's life and its good condition. So, how to properly care for a stroller? Here are some tips we have gathered for you!
1. Check the wheels
You will need the wheels to work smoothly for a stroller to function properly. Hence, it is important to check the condition of the wheels regularly — if there is a tear or a change of wheel is needed. After each outing, do clean the wheels from dust, mud, and sand. More importantly, check for bolts and axles — if they are loose and need to be tightened. And if there are metal elements at the wheels, remember to wipe them dry after a walk in the rain (or snow!) to avoid getting rusted.
2. Take care of the stroller's frame
The frame is basically the backbone of a baby stroller, hence, taking care of it is just as important as the wheels. To take care of the frame, do not overload the baby stroller above the recommended weight as too much weight can seriously damage the frame. After a walk in the rain (or snow), always wipe the frame dry. And, do not use strong cleaning agents when cleaning the frame as it may cause corrosion. What is more important is to check and tighten all the mounted elements such as screws and threads. When packing the stroller in the car's boot or plane, try to avoid mechanical damage or scratches. Also, do read the stroller's manual for a comprehensive guide!
3. Clean the upholstery
A well-maintained upholstery of the baby stroller is important for your little one's usage enjoyment. Use a soft cloth and a mild detergent to wipe clean the upholstery. Though some upholstery is labelled machine-washable, do note that they may lose their form or colour if they are machine-washed. You should also prevent the stroller from excessive, long-term sun exposure as repeated exposure of the material to the sunlight may cause the colour of the upholstery to fade. However, when in doubt, always refer to the user's manual.
