Ways To Encourage Healthy Eating Habits During Festive Season

The festive season is here and is filled with gatherings and celebrations, which usually revolve around food and drink. With various traditional delicacies and sweet treats served, it can be hard to resist! But, if we do not keep a proper cap on how much excess is too much, your children's health can go for a toss. So, here are a few helpful ways to encourage healthy eating habits during the festive season.

1. Guide kid's choices

Kids usually slow down or become hyperactive after eating sugar-loaded foods, refined flour, or the wrong types of fat. While they can enjoy the yummy foods, do encourage your kids to eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins for healthier alternatives that will satisfy their bodies. Or, you can make healthier versions of their favourite festive foods. For example, instead of frying, try grilling or baking it and instead of sugary drinks, offer water and unsweetened juices.

2. Limit sugary treats

Sugar is the main ingredient in many festive foods and drinks, but limiting your children's intake is important. Too much sugar can cause many health issues such as tooth decay and weight gain. Instead of sugary treats, give healthier options like fruits, nuts, or yogurt.

3. Get kids involved

Take your kids food shopping so they can learn the different fruits and vegetables. A trip to the supermarket helps your children see foods in a different setting — outside the kitchen. Introduce them to new produce and work together to create healthy and fun meals for the festivities.

4. Hydration is key

Drinking lots of water during the festive binge season is important! It helps to expel toxins and clear out extra waste from the body. Water keeps the body hydrated in scorching weather and maintains the required electrolyte balance.

5. Eat meals together

Try to make mealtimes nice and pleasant with conversation and sharing. During unpleasant mealtimes, kids may try to finish their meals faster to be excused from the dining table. Hence, share happy memories of a festive season when you were a child and ask your children about their favourite festive memories or the traditions they enjoy the most.
